On Friday 2 October 2026, the second day of high-school student mobilisation in Saint-Brieuc, several dozen young people meet around 8:30 a.m. near the Freyssinet lycée to try to blockade it; the police forces, who came in numbers, prevent them from reaching the lycée, which stays open (ICI Armorique). The face-off lasts about two hours before dispersal. Nearly 1,000 young people are gathered around Saint-Jouan, a few hundred metres from the lycée, before leaving it around 10:45 a.m. (Le Télégramme).
In its live coverage, Le Télégramme notes at 10:38 a.m.: “Police officers charge to contain the young people” (translated) (the entry has no other text in the version read). In the afternoon, the same newspaper describes three episodes in which throwing by protesters is followed by tear gas grenades: a first thrown stone around 3:19 p.m., thrown fruit around 3:30 p.m., then a volley around 4:05 p.m. intended to allow firefighters to put out a bin fire. The throwing and the fire appear in the linked case.
Teachers met near Freyssinet judge the police response “disproportionate” (translated) (Le Télégramme, 11:49 a.m.): this is their assessment, not a finding. The same live coverage quotes a police union according to which at least one police officer was injured in Saint-Brieuc that day, without linking it to this scene.
Notes on the sources
- Le Télégramme and ICI Armorique are two distinct media outlets; only Le Télégramme describes the tear gas and the charge.
- Glass bottles are cited, in the articles read, only outside the Jean-Moulin lycée the same day (Le Télégramme, 11:24 a.m.), not outside Freyssinet.
- Ouest-France (403), France 3 Bretagne and Le Penthièvre: not read.
