Image of the scene: In Argenteuil, a 16-year-old student injured in the eye reports an LBD shot; the prosecutor mentions two LBD shots

On Thursday 1 October 2026 in the late morning, between 300 and 400 young people are gathered in front of the Lycée Julie-Victoire Daubié, blockaded since 5:30 a.m., on the Argenteuil slab. Around 11:15 a.m., police disperse the crowd with tear gas (account by a female student to Le Parisien, repeated by Actu17). A student from another Argenteuil school is injured in the eye; according to the same student, “he turned around and took something in the eye” (translated). Treated on site by the SAMU (emergency medical service), he is hospitalised in Paris and says he was hit by an LBD shot. The same student describes him on the ground, about to lose consciousness (testimony not confirmed elsewhere).

The Pontoise public prosecutor’s office’s version (statement quoted by Actu17 and La Clé Publique): two police officers carrying LBDs reportedly used their weapon and hit two young men, who fled; the context of these shots, according to the public prosecutor’s office, is described in the linked case. The description of the hospitalised student “seemed to match” (translated) that of one of them, the public prosecutor’s office specifies, adding that these elements remain to be verified. The witness, a female student, disputed the public prosecutor’s office’s presentation: according to her, the injured person “really had nothing threatening about him” (translated) and was carrying only textbooks.

Follow-up

ICI (Radio France, 02/10) reports for its part that the prosecutor referred to the IGPN (police internal affairs) an investigation for violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority after the eye injury of a 16-year-old minor “this Thursday on the Dalle d’Argenteuil” (translated); according to ICI, the young man “reportedly fell victim to an LBD shot according to his relatives” (translated) and was treated on site before being taken to a Paris hospital.

The Pontoise public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority, entrusted to the IGPN: the fourth since the start of the movement (Actu17). Forensic medical examinations are to specify the nature of the injury and the incapacity for work; at this stage, the public prosecutor’s office’s elements do not allow establishing which projectile caused the eye injury (La Clé Publique), which explains the type “Other”. The severity assigned rests on the hospitalisation; the ITT (days of total incapacity for work) is not known. A member of parliament referred the matter to the prosecutor under article 40 of the code of criminal procedure.

Still unknown in the sources read: the projectile that caused the injury (the public prosecutor’s office itself says its elements do not allow establishing it), the incapacity for work and the state of the eye. The entry is verified as to the date, the place and the link with the movement (Pontoise public prosecutor’s office statement, ICI, Actu17, La Clé Publique); the facts themselves remain alleged.

On the evening of 5 October (ICI, updated on 7 October), ICI reports the remarks of the student’s lawyer to France Inter: going around the station, blockaded by law enforcement, he found himself “in spite of himself” (translated) in the middle of a gathering near another lycée and was hit there by “a shot right in the face” (translated); he may lose the use of his left eye, “bones were broken around the eye and the prognosis of blindness is reserved” (translated); the family announces a complaint against persons unknown. According to the Pontoise public prosecutor’s office, quoted by ICI, two police officers used their LBDs while “two young men located about twenty metres from them had fired mortars in their direction” (translated) and hit the two young people, who fled. RTL (07/10) counts this case among six IGPN investigations into LBD shots, along with Tours, Sevran, Villepinte, Sartrouville and Martigues. The loss of sight in the eye is not established to date: the severity remains “Serious injury” (hospitalisation).
