On Tuesday 29 September 2026, during the blockade of the Lycée Auguste-Renoir in Asnières-sur-Seine, a female student is restrained by a police officer in a chokehold. AFP, quoted by citoyens.com on 1 October, describes a video of a few seconds filmed that day: the student is seen being pushed by a police officer who also applies a chokehold.
The teachers’ version, in a statement supported by the SNES-FSU and CGT branches at the school: the blockade, carried out “peacefully” (translated), gave rise to a “repressive escalation” (translated) with four arrests of students, tear gas and the strangling of the student, who was placed in police custody and then brought before an immediate-trial court; two students are prosecuted for insult. They call for the prosecutions to be dropped. Students interviewed by 20 Minutes on 1 October confirm this version and describe scenes of panic after the use of gas.
According to her father and several friends quoted by AFP, the student tried to step in between another female student and police officers. The public prosecutor’s office, for its part, accuses her of having struck a police officer: see the linked entry, which reports this accusation. None of the sources read says whether the blows she is accused of came before or after the chokehold.
No reaction from the prefecture, the police or the Interior Ministry on this scene is reported in the articles read (re-read on 2026-10-05). No complaint or investigation into the police officer’s gesture is mentioned.
