The police prefecture states that, outside the school, law enforcement “came under firework mortar fire from the protesters” (translated) before the warnings and the dispersal with gas, and that a high-school student presented as the author of these shots was arrested. It counts injured CRS: four according to 20 Minutes and the lead of ICI, five according to La Provence, which quotes the prefecture's detail (four with bruises and one with tinnitus) and according to the ICI text. The school's teachers describe a peaceful gathering and La Provence writes that the blockade was taking place without firecrackers before the charge: the prefecture's version is taken up only by the articles that quote its statement, with one exception: France 3 writes, without attribution, that “smoke bombs and firework mortar shots were reported” (translated). The severity comes from the prefecture (bruises, tinnitus).
Firework mortar · 4 victims: CRS (four to five)
Established: recognised by a magistrate, a video authenticated by a news outlet, or a medical report. Alleged: reported, neither confirmed nor denied. Disputed: reported, then denied by an authority.
On Wednesday 7 October 2026 around 9 a.m., outside the Marie-Curie technological high school in Marseille (5th arrondissement), the CRS intervene to lift a blockade. The police prefecture, quoted by ICI, France 3, 20 Minutes and La Provence, says that about a hundred people, some with their faces covered, were blocking the school and the public highway, that law enforcement “came under firework mortar fire from the protesters” (translated), then that several warnings were given before the use of tear gas. It reports CRS injured with bruises and one case of tinnitus, and says that a high-school student, the author of the mortar shots, was arrested.
This version is contested on how events unfolded: the school’s teachers and students describe a peaceful blockade, a sit-in and a human chain, and La Provence writes that the blockade was taking place “with no bin fire or firecracker” (translated) before the charge. The detail of this charge and of the high-school student injured in the head is the subject of a linked entry. The sources read describe neither the exact moment of the mortar shots, nor each officer’s injuries beyond the prefecture’s account, nor the charge brought against the arrested high-school student; he is presumed innocent. The figures differ: four injured CRS for 20 Minutes, the ICI lead and the La Provence headline; five in the prefecture’s detail reported by La Provence and in the ICI text. No judicial follow-up is reported as of 2026-10-07.
What is missing for confirmation
A source independent of the police prefecture on the mortar shots and on the CRS officers’ injuries: the articles read (ICI, La Provence, 20 Minutes, Marsactu, France 3) take up its statement, with the sole exception of an unattributed mention by France 3 (“firework mortar shots were reported” (translated)).
The exact moment of the shots (before or after the CRS arrived) and the detail of each officer’s injuries.
