In the morning, on a square between two high schools, a firework mortar fired at ground level “in their direction” (translated) (Actu17) explodes a few metres from a one-year-old infant in a pushchair; according to RTL, the group fled leaving the mortar lit. The child suffers from tinnitus and is hospitalised according to a source close to the case quoted by Actu17 and RTL (based on RMC). The Versailles public prosecutor's office opens an inquiry; a high-school student suspected of having lit the device is placed in police custody for “violence with use or threat of a weapon followed by incapacity not exceeding eight days” (translated) (Actu17). The town's mayor says the mortar was “aimed at ground level, so at pushchair height” (translated) (Le Parisien, quoted by Actu17). The severity retained comes from the classification of the custody (incapacity of eight days at most); the hospitalisation is reported only by a source close to the case. On 9 October, according to Actu.fr, the suspected student is prosecuted for unlawful possession, in a group, of an explosive device or product, participation with a weapon in a gathering with the face concealed, involuntary injuries and endangering others, and is due to appear in July 2027 at a guilt hearing before the juvenile court. The suspected person is presumed innocent.

On the morning of Tuesday 6 October 2026, in Saint-Cyr-l’École (Yvelines), near Versailles, young people are gathered on a square near a supermarket, between the lycée Mansart and the lycée professionnel Jean-Perrin, on the sidelines of the high-school mobilisation. A one-year-old infant is in a pushchair with his parents when a firework mortar is fired at ground level and shoots off in their direction (Actu17). According to a police source quoted by RTL, the father tried to intervene to prevent an accident and shouted: “You’re crazy, there’s a one-year-old baby!” (translated).

The noise of the explosion causes tinnitus in the child, who is taken to hospital; his life is not in danger, according to a source close to the case quoted by Actu17, which confirms information from RMC (RTL likewise). The coordinates of this entry are those of the lycée Mansart, next to the square.

After the shot, according to Actu17, about ten hooded young people disperse; the police officers, helped by the description given by the father and by images filmed by a young witness, find a high-school student who matches this description. She is placed in police custody; the Versailles public prosecutor’s office opens an inquiry (Actu17, RTL). Municipal police officers and the deputy mayor for security were deployed in the neighbourhood, and school bags are searched there every day, the mayor tells Actu17, which adds that many mortars are seized there.

As of 7 October 2026, no formal placement under investigation, no referral to court and no judicial decision were reported (situation on 9 October: see below). Press read on 7 October: Actu17 and RTL; Le Parisien and RMC could not be read (the former is quoted by Actu17, the latter by RTL).

On 9 October, Actu.fr (78actu) reports that the student, a 15-year-old minor according to that outlet (Actu17 wrote 16 on 7 October), is prosecuted for “unlawful possession, in a group, of an explosive device or product, participation with a weapon in a gathering with the face concealed, involuntary injuries and endangering others” (translated); she is due to appear in July 2027 at a “guilt hearing” (translated) before the juvenile court, a stage which, the outlet specifies, does not mean that the facts are acknowledged: the juvenile judge examines the file there to decide whether the minor is guilty or not. In the meantime, the public prosecutor’s office has requested placement under judicial supervision and a provisional judicial educational measure; the judge’s decision is not reported in the article read. According to Actu.fr, the parents heard by the police officers say they felt directly targeted by the shots; the outlet speaks of a little girl “barely 10 months old” (translated), whereas Actu17 and RTL write one year; the prosecution concerns “involuntary injuries” (translated) and does not repeat the classification of the custody (“violence with use or threat of a weapon” (translated)), which does not change the severity retained here: the prosecution for “involuntary injuries” (translated) confirms that an injury is charged, tinnitus according to Actu.fr, with no incapacity for work specified.
