According to ICI Lorraine, whose journalist follows the march, around 4 p.m., as the demonstration resumes its march along rue Saint-Jean after a pause, law enforcement fire a volley of tear gas; ICI then writes that dozens of shots target the high-school students around place Charles-III. L'Est Républicain likewise writes that police officers regularly used tear gas in Nancy that day, and gives a different sequence for the 4:36 p.m. episode: “It took only a few projectiles being thrown for law enforcement to intervene. A few young people in the second line threw stones at the police officers, who responded three times at 10-minute intervals” (translated) (rues Saint-Jean and Saint-Dizier); ICI mentions no projectile before the volley and protesters speak of a gathering with “no overstepping” (translated). A trade unionist standing a few metres from the police officers, high-school students and university students tell ICI that no warning was given; a female high-school student says: “We were dancing and playing music when they gassed” (translated). The prefecture does not mention these shots: it speaks of “incivilities occurring on the sidelines of the mobilisations” (translated) and of three people slightly injured, without specifying who or how. Severity: that of the act described (tear gas received by the march), no symptom being described by a gassed person in the sources read.

On Tuesday 6 October 2026, the day of “act III” of the high-school mobilisation, several thousand people (4,000 according to the unions, about 3,000 at the peak of the march according to L’Est Républicain) march in Nancy from place Carnot, with high-school students, university students, parents and National Education unions; the prefecture has banned demonstrations in the hyper-centre until 7 October. ICI Lorraine describes a calm day until the end of the afternoon: a face-off under the Arc Héré around 3 p.m., unions forming a cordon between protesters and police officers, then, around 4 p.m., the resumption of the march along rue Saint-Jean and “a volley of tear gas fired by law enforcement” (translated).

A trade unionist placed near the police officers “to maintain a security cordon between them and the young people” (translated) tells ICI that no warning was given, and all the high-school and university students questioned say the same; L’Est Républicain describes, around 4:36 p.m., gas fired after stones were thrown at the police officers by “a few young people in the second line” (translated), among a crowd that was “largely families” (translated); these throws are not mentioned by ICI, and the two accounts are not reconciled. At 2:43 p.m., thus before these shots, university students quoted by L’Est Républicain were already denouncing “disproportionate police repression methods” (translated) (tear gas without warning, encirclement): general remarks, with no established link to this scene. At the end of the day, the demonstration disperses and only “the most radical elements” (translated) remain, who confront law enforcement, with firecrackers in rue Saint-Jean and burning bins (ICI), then a “chase and arrest” (translated) in the station area (L’Est Républicain). This end-of-day violence is not described precisely enough to be the subject of an entry.

The Meurthe-et-Moselle prefecture counts 11 arrests on 6 October and three slightly injured people, without locating them; the prefect “firmly condemns the acts of violence committed” (translated) and promises to identify their perpetrators (statement quoted by ICI). No complaint, referral to the IGPN (police internal affairs) or official reaction on the gas shots is reported in the articles read as of 2026-10-07. The coordinates of this entry are those of place Charles-III.
