According to ICI Isère, whose journalist films the scene, an unmarked grey police Clio, with its light switched off on the roof, no siren, and a helmeted police officer at the wheel with the window open, bursts onto the lawn of the Lilattes park at 10:04 a.m., goes around the park at speed on the paths and the grass, then reappears at 10:07 and speeds towards the students again, zigzagging between the trees; the young people run in all directions, regroup and advance towards the vehicle, which drives off. The Dauphiné Libéré also describes an unmarked car that dashed into the park “in the middle of high-school students running away” (translated); according to high-school students' accounts quoted by the newspaper, it reportedly drove among the protesters. The police, quoted by ICI, state that a team on foot was in difficulty, that the car came to support it and to try to arrest young people who were firing mortars, and that it stayed far from the high-school students, with no intention of hitting them; according to the Dauphiné Libéré, the police did not respond to its request for an explanation. No injury is reported in the articles read.

Image of the scene: Bourgoin-Jallieu: an unmarked police car drives towards high-school students; police deny any intent to hit them

On Monday 5 October 2026, around 10 a.m., hundreds of high-school students gather in front of the conservatoire at the entrance to the Lilattes park in Bourgoin-Jallieu (Isère), where, according to ICI Isère, tensions broke out outside the Oiselet high school, reopened that day. Some fire firework mortars at law enforcement, who respond with a very large number of tear-gas shots; the smoke makes the air unbreathable and visibility almost nil (ICI Isère). This part of the scene is described in the linked entry.

It is then, according to ICI Isère, that an unmarked police car, previously parked in the neighbouring car park, enters the lawn. The ICI Isère journalist present films it: at 10:04 a.m., the grey Clio, with a light placed on the roof but switched off, a helmeted police officer at the wheel with the window open, drives along the paths and the grass at speed; three minutes later, it reappears and heads towards the students again, zigzagging. The young people regroup and advance towards it, and the vehicle leaves via the back of the park. The Dauphiné Libéré, which picks up the video “filmed notably by” (translated) the ICI journalist, writes that “an unmarked police car also dashed after the protesters” (translated) in the park, the scene having lasted only “a few seconds” (translated) and that, according to high-school students’ accounts, it reportedly drove among them.

The two accounts differ on the meaning of the manoeuvre. ICI reports that the police explain that a team on foot was in difficulty at an entrance to the park and that the car quickly joined up to support it and try to arrest young people who were confronting them; the police officers reportedly wanted to get out of the vehicle but the young people came back into contact; the police maintain that the car stayed far from the high-school students, with no intention whatsoever of hitting them. The Dauphiné Libéré writes that the police did not respond to its request about the reasons for this manoeuvre.

SOS Racisme speaks of a “human rodeo” (translated), its president in Isère considering that nothing justified this intervention; the Ligue des droits de l’Homme condemns the scene (positions of associations, reported by ICI and franceinfo). No complaint, no referral to the IGPN (police internal affairs) and no injury are reported in the articles read as of 2026-10-07.
