On Thursday 1 October 2026, an opposition municipal councillor from Orléans, a member of the Communist Party, goes to the Lycée Voltaire, in the La Source district, where students are blockading the school. According to ICI Orléans, he forms there with teachers “a sort of cordon to protect peaceful protesters” (translated); the scene also takes place amid projectile throwing and a fire starting, reported in the linked case.
According to France 3, a group of adults steps in between, forming “a chain of five or six people” (translated) in front of police officers who are ahead of a fire engine, at the moment a charge is launched. In the shots filmed by the channel’s crew, a police officer “clearly hooks his leg behind that of the councillor, at mid-calf, causing him to fall” (translated), the councillor wearing his sash; he is also struck with a baton in the back. Footage filmed by the Actu Orléans site (ICI) shows a police officer who “puts him on the ground” (translated). A doctor prescribes him two days of ITT (days of total incapacity for work) on 2 October (France 3); ICI speaks of bruises to the back. France 3 writes that the police officer who hooked his leg is “the same one” (translated) who had given him the middle finger earlier, and that the gesture appears in a video shared on Instagram by the “Infogaucho” account; ICI writes that the scene was filmed by journalists.
The councillor reports that the police officer told him in his ear “Even if you’re an elected official, you’re a piece of shit like the rest” (translated), then gave him the middle finger when he asked for his RIO number (ICI; France 3). The Loiret prefecture was unable to explain to France 3 the reasons for the charge or the violence targeting the councillor. The departmental delegate of the Alliance Police union tells France 3 that the police’s actions respond to attacks by vandals, that these are “offensive bounds, in the face of firework mortar fire” (translated) (his claims about acts attributed to the vandals appear in the linked case); they are not verified by any authority in the articles read.
Follow-up
The councillor announces a complaint for “violence by a person holding public authority” (translated) (ICI, 01/10); France 3 writes on 3 October that the filing of the complaint is “under way” (translated). No response from the prefecture or the public prosecutor’s office, no referral to the IGPN (police internal affairs) and no judicial follow-up are reported in the sources read as of 2026-10-04 (search of 4 October: no article after 3 October).
