In the video bearing the “MEDIANAR 2.0” logo, a man in a white top with an orange backpack is walking away, his back to the police officers; a helmeted police officer grabs him from behind and throws him to the ground. The man gets up, staggers among the officers, with red marks on his white top, then falls again at the foot of a concrete block, surrounded by officers and shields. Voices shout “Medic, medic” and “he has a medic card” (video subtitles, translated). Severity: from this video alone, the man gets up staggering then falls again; the videos of the other facts show him motionless.

In the video from the account The Specter, posted on 17 October at around 6:36 pm (Paris time), police officers lift the man by the legs, his top pulled up and his face blurred by the publisher, then drag him along the ground by the legs; he makes no visible movement. An officer leaning over him wears a pouch marked “MED”. The video does not show what happens next. Severity: according to the video, the man remains motionless, with no visible movement, while he is lifted and then dragged.

Image of the scene: Paris, place de la République: man grabbed from behind, thrown to the ground by an officer, then dragged by the legs

On Saturday 17 October 2026, a national day of mobilisation (the Union syndicale des lycéens had called, like several organisations, to join that day the “large demonstration” (translated) of the “yellow vests” (translated), according to an AFP dispatch of 14 October picked up by Sud Radio), the Paris march sets off from the place de la République. According to franceinfo and ICI Paris, clashes break out there between hundreds of people and law enforcement (projectiles thrown, tear gas grenades, water cannon, vehicles set on fire).

Several videos show, from different angles, the same scene on the square: the same man (white top, beige trousers, orange backpack), the same police officers, the same wreckage of a burnt kiosk and a burnt car. The first, 15 seconds long, bears the logo of the account The Specter; it is posted on X on 17 October at around 6:36 pm (Paris time) and shared at 10:30 pm by an X account that asks: “What happened there?” (translated). The second, 90 seconds long, bears the “MEDIANAR 2.0” logo; it is published on 18 October in reply, with this text: “That’s what happened!” (translated).

In the MEDIANAR 2.0 video, reviewed at eight frames per second: the man is walking away, his back to a line of police officers; a helmeted officer grabs him from behind and throws him to the ground. He stays down for several seconds, gets up, staggers between the officers with red marks on his top, then falls again at the foot of a concrete block amid the shields. Voices shout “Medic, medic” then “he has a medic card” (subtitles overlaid by the publisher, translated). A third, vertical video, shared on 18 October by an X account, shows the moment before: the man, facing a line of police officers, spreads his arms, steps in among them and their shields, then moves away; he then comes out of a group of officers near a burnt car with red on his face and his top, walks away, and an officer runs after him, baton in hand. It does not clearly show a blow. A witness who says they saw the scene writes on the evening of 17 October: “He got arrested, up to there nothing to say, he took blows full in the face which knocked him out. They dragged him on the ground like a DOG, for several metres over the gravel” (translated).

On 18 October, the X account Mr. Propagande shares an 80-second edit that places the scene at “Paris, rue du Faubourg-du-Temple, 17 October 2026” (translated; a street opening onto the square) and calls for witnesses. It reuses the vertical video and The Specter’s, and adds a previously unseen angle: two police officers drag the man by the legs over the paving stones to a white police truck and leave him there face down; he lies with no visible movement for several seconds, officers walk past him, one leans over him. The publisher writes: “A completely unconscious protester dragged along the ground by the police yesterday in Paris” (translated).

A fifth, 9-second video, posted on 17 October at around 10:45 pm (Paris time) and shared on 18 October by an X account, films from close up, between the legs of passers-by: the man is lying on the ground, his back bare, top pulled up, motionless, while police officers lean over him. The person filming says: “Look, he’s on the ground, he’s searching his bag. The guy is on the ground, he’s searching him” (translated).

The Specter video then shows police officers lifting him and dragging him along the ground by the legs, with no visible movement on his part; the publisher has blurred his face.

The X account Focus posts on 17 October at 8:39 pm (Paris time) a video titled “A protester unconscious on place de la République” (translated): a man in beige trousers and black shoes is lying on the ground, cared for by several gloved people, one of them wearing an orange armband, among police officers. His top and face are not visible and no orange bag appears: nothing in this video alone makes it possible to say whether it is the same man.

On the evening of 18 October, the X account Impact posts a 4-minute-32 edit that reuses these videos and adds previously unseen shots. One, filmed at ground level next to a white police truck, shows the man lying face down, eyes closed, his face bloodied, a red and white scarf around his neck, the orange straps of his bag over his white top, surrounded by police officers’ legs. Another shows, inside a cordon of police officers, a man in a white top with orange straps and beige trousers being cared for on the ground by gloved first-aiders: the same clothes as the man who was dragged, the same first-aiders as in the Focus video. Impact writes: “Where is this man, who is said to be a street medic? What is his state of health?” (translated), and says it does not know his state of health.

No source says who this man is, whether he is a street medic, or what happened to him afterwards. ICI Paris reports on 18 October that “a protester injured in the skull, still in Paris this Saturday” (translated) filed a complaint and that the IGPN (police internal affairs) has been called in; the Paris public prosecutor’s office, cited by franceinfo the same day, says that the videos of this man were “taken near the Gare du Nord” (translated), that he was attended to and then filed a complaint saying that it was he in those videos: nothing says that he is the same man as the one in this entry.

The same day, a protester died in Paris: according to the police prefecture, he collapsed on boulevard de Magenta and was carried by other protesters to the Château-d’Eau fire station, where he died of cardiorespiratory arrest; the Paris public prosecutor’s office opened an inquiry “to establish the causes of death” (translated) (France 24, 18 October). The third video bears text overlaid by its unidentified publisher: “The man who died on 17 October was a street medic” (translated). No media outlet, authority or relative has so far confirmed that the man filmed here is the one who died; the prefecture describes a collapse on boulevard de Magenta and transport by protesters, whereas here the man is in the hands of police officers. The Paris public prosecutor’s office says, on 18 October, that its criminal on-call desk was notified on Saturday evening of a death on rue du Château-d’Eau “following a probable collapse” (translated), that the body was taken to the institut médico-légal (forensic institute) and that an inquiry “to establish the causes of death” (translated) is open (Actu17, Paris Match according to the public prosecutor’s office); according to actu Paris, which cites the police prefecture, the collapse took place “shortly after the start of the march at around 2 p.m.” (translated): no source gives the time of the scene filmed here. MP Sandrine Rousseau asks on 19 October on RMC: “Has there been a death at place de la République?” (translated). The same day, according to 20 Minutes (live coverage), the Paris public prosecutor’s office announces in a press release that “checks are under way” (translated) on “the alleged death of a street medic at place de la République on Saturday” (translated) and on a death that occurred on Sunday evening in the Les Halles area; the press release itself was not found and this summary says neither whether this alleged death is the one on boulevard de Magenta, nor whether the man filmed here is concerned. Contre-Attaque (activist outlet, 19 October) writes that the victim “is said to be a medic” (translated) and that videos show “another medic hit by police officers, then his completely lifeless body carried away by officers” (translated), posing the question “Is it the deceased medic?” (translated) without answering it.
