On Thursday 8 October 2026, at the vocational lycée Les Iris in Lormont (Gironde), the day begins with a general assembly of pupils, teachers and management that went “very well” (translated), according to the headteacher cited by Rue89 Bordeaux. Once the lycée pupils have left to join the demonstration in Bordeaux, a group of hooded and masked people, who were throwing stones at law enforcement outside, manage to enter the school.
The Gironde prefecture speaks of projectiles breaking windows and a fire starting, with immediate intervention by the internal security forces and the firefighters. In a joint statement, the prefect and the rector indicate that the workrooms of two courses, taught only in this lycée for the académie, were partly destroyed, and “firmly” (translated) condemn the violence while asking lycée pupils to distance themselves from the perpetrators. Rue89 Bordeaux also reports the theft of about ten computers. franceinfo (video report) speaks of a fire, ransacked rooms and stolen computer equipment, and says that the criminal investigation police carried out the first findings to identify the perpetrators.
On 9 October, the mayor of Lormont tells actu Bordeaux: “Law enforcement and lycée teams viewed the footage and worked to identify the intruders […] Among them, there are a few pupils from the school but I would remind you that there are 3,000 lycée pupils in Lormont and that the vast majority wish to return to classes” (translated); he says he has never heard a lycée pupil or a parent support such acts and announces that the aim is to reopen the school as early as the following week, in part: the ransacked rooms will take “a little longer to be reactivated” (translated). No arrest for this intrusion is reported in the sources read; the prefecture reports, for the whole day in Gironde, arrests and minor injuries that the articles do not link to this scene.
