On Tuesday 6 October 2026, about ten thousand people demonstrate in Strasbourg with the lycée pupils. According to Rue89 Strasbourg, some of the young people then continue the mobilisation in the streets of the Krutenau and the Esplanade, where law enforcement regularly use tear gas; a few protesters throw stones or firecrackers at the police.
Around 5:30 p.m., protesters reach the Université tram stop, near the lycée Jean-Rostand. Police officers are posted at a distance, rue Edmond-Labbé. Rue89 Strasbourg writes that two police officers of the Compagnie de sécurisation et d’intervention, placed right next to a cordon, fire an LBD at 5:35 p.m., and that La presse libre filmed the scene: in the video, a young person walks away holding his face. Taranis news published a video in which the officers holding the weapon and the young person receiving the impact can be seen; according to Rue89, he is bleeding from inside the mouth. A La presse libre reporter tells Rue89 that protesters had thrown projectiles that “landed well short of the cordon” (translated).
Versions differ on the weapon and the shot. The DNA speak of a young person hit in the mouth by the ricochet of an LBD or Cougar launcher cartridge, fired in a high arc, and specify that the young person has not come forward to the police. France 3 Alsace cites a police union representative who denies it was an LBD because of the distance (about 50 m between the young person and the police, against 25 m for an LBD shot) and locates the event on boulevard de la Victoire. These sources agree on the investigation: MP Emmanuel Fernandes (La France insoumise) reported the facts to the Strasbourg prosecutor, who confirmed that an investigation has been opened; the national police say they have “informed the public prosecutor’s office” (translated) and that “a situation analysis is under way to determine the circumstances of the shot” (translated) (Rue89 Strasbourg).
The severity (serious injury) comes from France 3 Alsace (8 October): “a young person seriously injured in the jaw” (translated), with no further detail; the other sources are less precise: the young person walks away holding his face (La presse libre video), is bleeding from inside the mouth (Rue89, based on the Taranis news video), is “hit in the mouth” (translated) (DNA) or “injured in the jaw” (translated) (France 3 Grand Est, 14 October). No medical report, fracture or hospitalisation is reported. The La presse libre video was viewed on 9 October 2026; the Taranis news one could not be found.
On 14 October, France 3 Grand Est, in an article devoted to the report of the Observatoire strasbourgeois des libertés publiques on the demonstration of 6 October (the article presents this shot “in parallel to the report” (translated)), writes that “a young man was injured in the jaw by an LBD shot” (translated) that same Tuesday: “According to the videos and the journalists who witnessed it, the projectile was fired by a police officer located about fifty metres away, i.e. more than 15 metres beyond the ‘operational distance interval’, the limit of use of the weapon, according to an instructions note. The projectile bounced on the ground before hitting the protester.” (translated) The outlet adds that MP Emmanuel Fernandes (La France insoumise) reported the LBD shot to the Strasbourg prosecutor. This description rests on no medical report: it draws on the videos and on journalists’ testimonies, and it diverges from that of France 3 Alsace of 8 October, in which a police union representative ruled out an LBD because of the distance of about 50 metres (the two articles agree on this distance).
The coordinates are those of rue Edmond-Labbé, which Rue89 Strasbourg places near the scene.
