On Monday 5 October 2026, despite low high-school mobilisation in Alsace, clashes break out in Haguenau (Bas-Rhin) between protesters and police; eight young people, mostly minors (mostly 15 and 16 years old according to the DNA), are arrested (ICI Alsace, DNA). The town’s schools had not closed.
Around 8 a.m., according to the DNA, nearly 150 protesters described by police as “mortar shooters” (translated) gather in front of the gate of a vocational lycée, route de Strasbourg. The police respond with several tear gas grenade shots. France 3 Grand Est, for its part, speaks of disturbances in front of the André-Siegfried vocational lycée (mortars and fireworks, students kept in their classrooms then released, police intervening “in several places” (translated) in the town) and mentions no injured person; the DNA place another gathering in front of that lycée later in the morning. Nothing says this is the scene of the vehicle that was hit.
The DNA and ICI report that fireworks hit a police vehicle and injure two officers (see the fact above). Later, according to the DNA, protesters open gabions near the Robert-Schuman lycée to throw stones at the police officers: a nearby scene, with no victim described, given as context and not counted here. A young person is also injured in the hand by a mortar and taken to the Hautepierre hospital in Strasbourg; the mayor of Haguenau, quoted by ICI, says he was injured “while handling a mortar” (translated): he is therefore not counted here as a victim of a third party. In a statement, the mayor denounces “troublemakers, who are neither enrolled in school nor resident in Haguenau” (translated): a general accusation by an authority, with no specific fact, given as context.
The coordinates are those of the town centre: the sources diverge on the lycée concerned (Heinrich-Nessel for the DNA, André-Siegfried for France 3) and none places the vehicle that was hit precisely.
Follow-up
Eight arrests in Haguenau (ICI, DNA). No complaint, investigation or court decision is reported in the articles read as of 2026-10-05.
