On the evening of 1 October 2026, an X account publishes, in reply to a call to record police violence in the high-school movement, a 74-second video located in Vesoul, with this text: “the young person stayed unconscious for 20 minutes” (translated).
The video, filmed in daylight in a residential street, shows a young man dressed in black held face down on the pavement, against a parked vehicle, by at least four police officers wearing helmets and “POLICE” vests. He is then handcuffed behind his back. A person in an orange safety vest passes in the foreground at the start of the recording.
The same day, the France 3 Franche-Comté live feed indicates, at 11:53 a.m., that a group of protesters gathered in mid-morning in front of the Vesoul prefecture after crossing the town centre and that “according to our colleagues at the Est Républicain, they were dispersed by a law enforcement charge. A young man reportedly stayed on the ground, as firefighters were called.” (translated) The same live feed counts six protesters arrested in Haute-Saône during the day, and the mayor of Vesoul speaks there of “violence” in the town’s streets and of “intolerable and worrying” images (translated). These elements indicate that a young person reportedly stayed on the ground in Vesoul on 1 October after a charge; no source read says that he is the person in the video (the video shows a residential street and police officers holding him against a vehicle, not a gathering in front of the prefecture), nor specifies his condition or any loss of consciousness. The Haute-Saône prefecture is not quoted on this point.
What is missing to confirm
- The exact date and precise place (street, nearest lycée): only the town and the date of publication are known.
- The link with the high-school movement: the message asserts it, nothing in the image shows it.
- The young person’s condition: the loss of consciousness is reported only by the author of the message.
- A pick-up of the video by a media outlet or a reaction from the authorities: none found on 2026-10-04 (national and local press); only the France 3 Franche-Comté live feed mentions, based on the Est Républicain, a young person left on the ground in Vesoul, with no established link to the video.
