On Tuesday 29 September 2026, the day of the national call to blockade lycées, hundreds of students block access to the Paul-Éluard lycée in Saint-Denis (Europe 1). The mayor of Saint-Denis is present and, according to Europe 1, steps between the students and the CRS riot police.
Again according to Europe 1, the CRS carry out several successive charges and fire several tear gas grenades; the shots and throws by students described in the same article appear in the linked entry. Two people are arrested. The same day, 20 Minutes reports the arrest of a young man outside the lycée and cites the Ministry of National Education, according to which 40 people were arrested across France around lycées that day.
The lycée was already at the heart of tensions: see the entry on the arrests of 25 September outside the same school.
The same morning, according to franceinfo, a grey car accelerates in the middle of young protesters outside the lycée; they step aside, then chase it, the mayor running behind it (live TikTok video, the only video found). On 1 October the mayor states that the driver “was a police officer” (translated) and that she nearly drove into the young people; his entourage says he had hit the bumper to calm her, that she panicked and accelerated, and that nobody knew she was a police officer. The Bobigny public prosecutor’s office confirms an investigation and that the police officer “was driving in plain clothes in her personal vehicle and was going to her place of work” (translated) (franceinfo, 02/10); the police officer’s complaint is described in the linked entry.
What is missing to confirm
- A second source that itself describes the charges and the tear gas: 20 Minutes reports, in the excerpt read, only the arrest.
- A statement from the Paris police prefecture or the Bobigny public prosecutor’s office on the circumstances and grounds of the two arrests.
- The possible existence of injured students: none is mentioned.
