On Monday 28 September 2026, high-school students try to blockade the Emmanuel-Mounier lycée in Grenoble with bins. According to the police, reached by ICI Isère, law enforcement arrive at around 10 a.m., are targeted by projectiles and use tear gas; three young people aged 15 to 17 are arrested for violence against a person holding public authority. The Isère departmental directorate of the national police, quoted by France 3, mentions barricades on the tram tracks and bin fires.
Place Gre’net describes a widely shared video of one of the arrests: a young person who tries to flee is stopped by a helmeted police officer; a colleague strikes him with a tonfa baton on the left flank, then, as the young person has turned around and the first officer pulls him to the ground, with a second blow to the shoulder. Reinforcements then gather, shields and tear-gas canister in hand, before the young person is helped up. TG+ relays the same day a video from the elected official, in which a person is seen violently pinned to the ground, and specifies that the images alone do not establish what happened before the sequence; the elected official says he has contacted the prefect of Isère. France 3 collects the testimony of a high-school student: “a girl got beaten with a baton in front of me” (translated); this testimony does not describe the scene of the tonfa blows.
None of the articles read links this video to any of the three arrests by the police, nor says whether the young person is a minor or an adult: “teenager” is Place Gre’net’s word. This scene is distinct from the arrest of a handcuffed young person by mobile gendarmes (entry of 2 October): no source connects them.
What is missing to confirm
- A second source describing the tonfa blows in this video. Titles read on 2026-10-05: Place Gre’net (29/09, about 44% of the article read, the rest is subscribers-only), TG+ (28/09, which describes a person pinned to the ground but no blows), France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (28/09), ICI Isère (28/09). Not read: Le Dauphiné libéré, Le Postillon (no article found on this scene).
- The video itself has not been viewed: the elected official’s message dated 29/09 at 06:46 UTC that speaks of a “baton” (translated) refers to another 16-second sequence, in which no blow is visible. The video of the tonfa blows, published on 28/09, has not been found.
- A reaction from the prefecture, the police or the public prosecutor’s office on this arrest, and the young person’s condition.
